La caligidosis, causada por el ectoparásito Caligus rogercresseyi, es uno de los principales desafíos sanitarios durante la etapa de engorda en agua de mar en la salmonicultura chilena, debido principalmente a los altos costos asociados a su vigilancia y control. Tradicionalmente, el ciclo de vida de C. rogercresseyi ha sido descrito en ocho etapas de desarrollo, siendo los copepoditos considerados la única fase infectante. Esta obra presenta tres estudios experimentales que, en conjunto, evidencian una mayor capacidad natatoria en los parásitos adultos que en los copepoditos, planteando la hipótesis de que los adultos podrían intervenir activamente en el proceso de infección. Aunque se requieren más investigaciones en esta línea, estos hallazgos abren nuevas preguntas sobre el ciclo de vida de este parásito y podrían tener implicancias relevantes en las estrategias de vigilancia epidemiológica y control sanitario de esta enfermedad.
