Kirchenentwicklung als Zukunftsaufgabe wird durch das Synodenpapier der EKD im Jahre 2020 aktualisiert. Elf Leitsätze für eine 'Kirche der Zukunft' können als Basis und Anregung für Perspektiven in Verbindung mit grundsätzlichen Überlegungen über Religion, Kirchen- und Gemeindeentwicklung sowie Kirche der Zukunft angesehen werden.Für Kirchen und ihre Mitglieder in einer Diasporasituation stellt sich die Thematik als eine Existenzfrage in einer pluralen Gesellschaft. Ergänzend ergibt sich die Notwendigkeit einer Stärkung des 'Ehrenamtes'/ Freiwilligenmanagements.
