  • Love Bites
    K D Halliwell
The ambiguously titled Love Bites is the debut offering from K D Halliwell, a Milton Keynes based author who describes the collection as a document of her twenties. Original and with a format that stands out from the ordinary, it is proving particularly well-received by those who “don’t normally like poetry”. Originally written by hand, the author has traversed a fine line betw...
  • Beyond the Road
    JT Curran
“Beyond the Road” is JT Curran’s first published volume of poetry.  Selected from collected works which span over fifty years, JT’s poetry blends colorful observations with thought-provoking reflections.  With wit, compassion, irony, and humor, this book invites the reader to consider the signposts, off-ramps, co-travelers and vistas which populate our journeys. JT’s words remi...

  • Polishing the Silver
    Jennifer Chrystie
‘There’s a touch of both Dickinson and Larkin in Jennifer Chrystie’s mature exhumation of the tales and tropes of family. Figures who could so easily flit like phantoms in her well honed poetry are palpably enjoying an after-life in the poet’s ability to redeem through deep understanding. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

  • One Kiss
    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....

Swollen seas, erotic monsters, Greek passion gone Latin, deftlyThis 1st-century AD Latin version of the earlier Greek epic features exotic lands, wondrous monsters and a sea voyage over swells of young love. Valerius Flaccus lent sharp Roman refinements and erotic passion to the tale, which are skillfully sustained in this careful and appealing modern translation in English ver...

  • Richard of Conisbrough
    Christopher Webster
Richard of Conisbrough was born in Conisbrough Castle only a few hundred yards from the author’s family home in Castle Avenue, and of all the great noblemen who owned Conisbrough Castle, he was the one who spent most time there. Rather than tell his story in novel form, as the author has done with other castle characters, he has chosen to tell it in the form of a play in the st...

  • Conisbrough Tales
    Christopher Webster
Conisbrough Tales is a modern version of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, being a collection of stories about my home town, Conisbrough, in verse. I am sure that Geoffrey Chaucer’s dog could write better poetry than me, but I think (hope) that there are a few felicitous moments where the doggerel rises to the level of verse (and, at rare moments, perhaps even poetry). Whatever the q...

  • Hrothgar
    Christopher Webster
Hrothgar is best known from the Anglo-Saxon epic poem, Beowulf, where he appears in a background role as the king whose hall is attacked by the troll, Grendel. This book aims to put Hrothgar in the foreground. His story is fleshed out with information from other sources, particularly the Gesta Danorum of Saxo Grammaticus. Other famous figures from Nordic legend appear in Hrothg...

1146 - Edessa falls to the forces of Zengi. In response, Pope Eugene III preaches the Second Crusade.
