Immer mehr Frauen wagen den Schritt in die Selbstständigkeit, auch in Zeiten einer schwachen Konjunktur. Mittlerweile sind mehr als eine Million der Unternehmen in Deutschland in der Hand von Frauen, verbunden mit drei bis vier Millionen Arbeitsplätzen. Damit stellen Unternehmen von Frauen einen wichtigen Wirtschaftsfaktor in der Volkswirtschaft. Gleichzeitig haftet den Unternehmen von Frauen ein 'Mauerblümchen'-Image an: Unternehmen von Frauen sind klein, schaffen keine Innovationen, wachsen nicht und sind überwiegend im Servicebereich angesiedelt. Sind dies alles Vorurteile oder ist auch etwas Wahres daran? Die Autoren geben Antworten auf diese Fragen, indem sie ein differenziertes Bild verschiedener Aspekte aufzeigen: Branchenschwerpunkte von Unternehmerinnen, Unternehmensgröße, Gründungen von Frauen, institutionelle Rahmenbedingungen sowie Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede in der Persönlichkeit von Frauen und Männern.
