Cet ouvrage, intitulé Fardeau familial et soutien social - Les mères d’enfants malentendants , rassemble des informations détaillées sur les différentes formes de stress psychologique et de fardeau auxquels sont confrontées les mères qui s’occupent de leurs enfants malentendants. Cette étude a été menée entre 2010 et 2011 dans divers centres de rééducation d’Hyderabad, notamment le Sweekaar Rehabilitation Institute for Handicapped, le National Institute for Mentally Handicapped et le Tagore Hariprasad Rehabilitation Center. L’ouvrage comprend cinq chapitres accompagnés de références bibliographiques ; il explique en détail les différents problèmes psychosociaux rencontrés par les mères d’enfants malentendants. L’étude a été menée selon un protocole expérimental comparatif, avec un groupe témoin composé de mères d’enfants sans déficience auditive. Les mères d’enfants malentendants subissent un fardeau plus lourd que celles d’enfants sans déficience auditive, mais aucune différence n’a été constatée en matière de soutien social.
