《绿涛室诗词》选自钱志熙所创作的诗词，全诗按一定的时间点，分内编、香江寓居小集、外编和二月楼诗草四个部分。其中，內编为作者获教授职称之后的作品，外编则是作者硕博至从教初的作品。作者说云：'若《绿涛室诗集》者，则燕园从教后之作也，自以为略窥风骚之旨，虽难及古贤，与今人颉颃，似亦有一日之长也。今之后生学诗，当从唐宋入，上溯六朝至《诗》、《骚》，下沿明、清至近世诗界革命、同光体诸家。今人之作，略可参考而己。如遽从今世所谓大家、名流入手，奉为极诣，则诗词之道，永不复矣！至于序跋传记之仿古文体者，皆率意为之，实未依古人体制，姑且存之，以为他日印证之资。'
