司徒美堂是著名的爱国侨领，是'爱国华侨的光辉榜样'。'司徒美堂先生所走的道路，反映着国外爱国侨胞自鸦片战争以来所走过的道路。'本书按时间顺序，讲述了司徒美堂由一个普通的出洋华工成长为洪门大佬，后来又成为支持辛亥革命、积极抗日、投身于新中国建设事业的爱国志士的传奇历程。司徒美堂，原名司徒羡意，字基赞，广东开平人。著名的美洲华侨领袖。 旅美侨领 。1880年3月赴美谋生，1885年加入'洪门致公堂'。富兰克林·罗斯福任总统前，在该堂当法律顾问。1904年，孙中山赴美活动，两人建立了深厚的友谊。其后，司徒美堂多次发动筹款，支持国内的革命。为支持抗日，司徒美堂发起成立'纽约华侨抗日救国筹饷总会'。1948年，司徒美堂公开声明拥护中国共产党及召开新政治协商会议、组建人民民主政府的主张。1955年，司徒美堂病逝于北京。
