Durante la Cuaresma de 1273 santo Tomás de Aquino pronunció casi sesenta sermones a los fieles de Nápoles, que fueron transcritos a partir de notas tomadas en latín. Aquí se ofrece la versión castellana de esos discursos, agrupados en cuatro opúsculos que se ordenan según lo que sugiere el mismo autor en el prólogo a su Exposición de los Mandamientos: lo que se ha de creer (el Símbolo de los Apóstoles); lo que se ha de desear (el Padrenuestro y el Avemaría); y lo que se ha de poner en práctica (los Mandamientos de la Ley de Dios).Además, se incluye un importantísimo escrito catequético, redactado por santo Tomás algunos años antes, y titulado Sobre los artículos de la fe y los sacramentos de la Iglesia. 10
