L’inquinamento ambientale causato dalle emissioni di toluene è una delle principali preoccupazioni a causa dei suoi effetti nocivi sulla salute umana e sugli ecosistemi. Il toluene, un composto organico volatile (COV), è comunemente utilizzato nei solventi industriali, nelle vernici e in vari prodotti chimici, con conseguente rilascio nell’aria. Questo inquinamento può causare problemi respiratori, mal di testa ed effetti più gravi a lungo termine per le popolazioni esposte. L’ossidazione catalitica si è dimostrata il metodo più efficace per mitigare questi impatti. Questo processo utilizza catalizzatori per convertire il toluene in anidride carbonica e acqua a temperature moderate, riducendo così in modo significativo la sua presenza nell’atmosfera. In questo lavoro ci siamo concentrati sulla preparazione di nuovi catalizzatori a base di argento supportati su solidi di ZrO2 e M-ZrO2 (dove M = Ce o Fe) per la reazione di ossidazione del toluene. È stato studiato l’effetto del contenuto di Ag e M sulle proprietà fisico-chimiche di questi solidi e sulla loro attività catalitica nell’ossidazione del toluene.
