When young eleven-year-old Cassy Pride hears screams from the woodland near her home, she finds herself compelled to investigate. While doing so, she encounters a huge monster, a demon, like a shadow that’s blacker than black and with eyes of red fire. That night she’s haunted by nightmares of the demon and its victims who have been sucked dry, this confuses her as she feels no fear, at least, not for herself. When, the following day, Sergeant Daniels, inform her and her parents that a young man was killed in the woods, Cassy knows what state the body is in and realises that her dreams are trying to tell her something.Supported by her best friends, Sarah, Josh and Rupert, she plans to go to the woods the next day in search of answers. While there, they discover more bodies, all dried up like its first victim. Fleeing the woods, they report their findings to the sergeant who goes in to look, but while there they are attacked by the demon and two officers are killed along with a woman from forensics.As fear grips the town and more people are taken, Cassy’s dreams continue and she soon understands that the demon is there for her. But, Cassy holds a secret not even she’s aware of, and so it’s set for an exciting showdown that will change her life, permanently.
