Carver’s Tortoise Farm

Carver’s Tortoise Farm: Learning and Growing with Slow and Steady Friends is a children’s picture book that blends storytelling with real science concepts in an engaging and approachable way. Set on a peaceful farm, the story follows Carver and his family as they care for tortoises, observe pond life, and watch hatchlings emerge. Through these everyday moments, readers are introduced to key ideas about animal behavior, habitats, nutrition, and life cycles. The story highlights how tortoises eat leafy greens and fruit, how their shells grow and protect them, and how they lay eggs that develop underground before hatching. Children also learn how animals interact within shared environments, including ponds and meadow ecosystems, where different species contribute to balance and survival. The inclusion of hatchlings exploring their surroundings adds a meaningful look at early growth and learning in animals.Designed for children ages 4 to 8, this book supports early science learning while encouraging patience, observation, and care for living things. A Science Facts page reinforces key concepts, and a Suggested Activities section provides opportunities for hands on learning and discussion.Follow along, learn together, and continue the journey beyond the page.
