La Riforma Psichiatrica brasiliana è un processo che mira a costruire un nuovo status sociale per le persone affette da malattia mentale, garantendo loro la cittadinanza, il rispetto dei loro diritti e della loro individualità, promuovendo la loro contrattualità, il recupero della capacità individuale di partecipare all’universo degli scambi sociali, dei beni, delle parole e degli affetti. Dalla sua nascita in Brasile negli anni ’80, sono stati creati nuovi centri di salute mentale che cercano di operare secondo la logica proposta dalla Riforma. È un impegno quotidiano e appassionato che richiede un grande investimento da parte di vari attori, cittadini, soprattutto operatori della salute mentale, famiglie e gli stessi utenti delle strutture sanitarie. Come ogni processo umano, presenta anche problemi, emergono domande a cui è necessario rispondere e confrontarsi. Questo libro presenta i risultati della ricerca di alcuni di questi professionisti appassionati, condotta a Rio de Janeiro, che presenta alcuni di questi problemi e le loro possibili soluzioni.
