It’s a simple idea, really. 1. Wear a uniform. 2. Protect who you love, what you care about. 3. Let nothing get in your way. Someone mugged Bruce’s mum and he is not having it. The shock is still visible in her trembling fingers, rippling out across the calm waters of their lives. He grabs his hoodie, his uniform, his cape and goes out to find the culprit. Smithy wants everyone to stay inside, Uhuru wants everyone out. Tanya thinks it’s boyish fun and games until, very suddenly, it isn’t. Inua Ellams was born in Nigeria and now lives and works in London. He is a poet, a graphic artist and designer. His debut play The 14th Tale won a Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Festival 2009, toured and ran at the National Theatre in spring 2010. His second play, Untitled, was commissioned by Soho Theatre. His poetry collections include Thirteen Fairy Negro Tales, Night Knuckles and Not Writing, Waterfront, Candy Coated Unicorns and Converse All Stars and The ScapeGallow. His other plays include Knight Watch and Black T-Shirt Collection.

‘There’s a touch of both Dickinson and Larkin in Jennifer Chrystie’s mature exhumation of the tales and tropes of family. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....
