Partendo dall’esperienza degli immigrati ebrei tra il 1881 e il 1924, l’attenzione si concentra sui giovani figli degli immigrati. Questi bambini erano spesso nati in un Paese ma cresciuti in un altro, e in seguito a ciò sperimentarono una scissione tra i vecchi valori dei genitori e i nuovi valori incontrati in America mentre andavano a scuola o giocavano per strada con i loro amici della stessa età.
