Brown Skin and the Beautiful Faith: A Poet’s Reflection is Terry E. Carter’s second volume of poetry and picks up on the familiar themes of faith, family, history, Black culture and jazz, enjoyed so much by readers of his first book, Brown Skin and the Bread f Life: A Poet’s Journey. The author’s work continues to revolve around his life experiences as an artist, writer, husband, father, cultural observer, and born-again believer. His purpose is again to educate and entertain, while demonstrating the virtues of a life in Christian discipleship.Brown Skin and the Beautiful Faith continues to display the author’s broad poetical repertoire and the craft he’s been developing for decades. His literary influences range from Shakespeare to the Harlem Renaissance. In this new volume, Terry uses significant rhyme to dramatic effect and expands upon the lyrical framework established in Brown Skin and the Bread of Life.Terry’s literary work is significantly impacted by his family, education, and leadership in Christian arts ministry. In addition to being a husband and a father, he is also a visual artist and a jazz aficionado. These creative attributes are consistently reflected in his poems and poetic stories. Terry is a professional non-profit manager who plans to write a third Brown Skin volume to conclude this poetic series. He lives on the Bay State’s South Shore with his wife Terésa, an ordained pastor and liturgical dancer, and his daughter Maya, currently a college sophomore theater major.
