On October 22nd, 1982, at Sharei Tzedek Hospital, two babies are born at exactly the same time, one to a Jewish mother, the other to a Muslim woman. Amid the turmoil of that day, the hospital becomes the unwitting partner to a crime of passion, a crime involving the covert swap of the two babies. It isn't until 28 years later that a nurse who was in the delivery room reveals the truth, triggering a series of happenings both tragic and profound. In her eagerness to find the young men and tell them about their true identities, she is willing to give everything she has, but she fails to take into account that there are forces at work trying to suppress the facts. Soon the question arises: was the babies' switch a casual mistake or an intentional act by people unknown?    The story is set amid the violent complexity of the Middle East and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It is a saga of intrigue and murder, in which the intervention of the Mossad and a plot to launch a cyberattack with a deadly virus that threatens the security of the State of Israel form the crux of intense, non-stop action. The fabric of startling events and bold characters rivet the attention of the reader, who becomes involved in history, experiences the tension between ethnic groups, and speculatively participates in the surprising outcome with which the work closes.    'Brothers” is an extraordinarily entertaining novel that both captivates and generates deep reflections about a contextual reality that, in today’s world, seems to have no end.

Stuart Evans’s first novel is a comedy-of-ill-manners set in a nouveau riche milieu: a fantastic satirical performance and hyper-referential homage to masters past and present. Paul Keller is the Stephen Dedalus of the piece, the son of Robert and Sylvie, whose internal monologue is spliced into the action, and whose incestuous feelings for his sister lead to an increase in his...
