It includes six case studies of composers: Adela Maddison; Ethel Smyth; Morfydd Owen; Ethel Barns; Alice Verne-Bredt and Susan Spain-Dunk. Seddon offers valuable insight into their musical education, compositional careers and provides discussion of their chamber works. The book draws on primary sources, as well as the writings of contemporary commentators, to assess the legacy of the chamber works produced.
