De esta forma, cronológicamente, se une la Edad del Bronce con la Antigüedad (donde surgen las primeras fuentes escritas) y la Edad Media (uno de los periodos más activos y conocidos de la ruta). Durante la Edad Moderna, la Ruta de la Seda quedó convertida en un producto vinculado a la búsqueda de “valiosos tesoros”, por lo que comenzó su declive hasta el momento actual. Se realiza un esbozo de la investigación y desarrollo de la Ruta de la Seda, que permite al lector adentrarse en la historia de este interesante itinerario comercial. La Ruta de la Seda ha sido y es una red comercial que conecta poblaciones a través de desiertos y oasis, montañas y arroyos. Para atravesarla, cualquier viajero curioso podría utilizar desde camellos, caballos o yaks, hasta modernos autobuses y camiones, descansando en lugares tan pintorescos y dispares como caravasares u hoteles. De esta forma, se pueden visitar ciudades de arcilla, campamentos mongoles, edificios con maravillosas cúpulas turquesas adornadas con arabescos, hasta calles con bazares abovedados, grandes plazas con madrazas y mezquitas, y enormes ciudadelas.
