In the late 1800s, young girls would whisper to each other their hopes to escape from their difficult life in Germany. Most of them had enough food from the garden, but they were poor and had to work hard. At fourteen, Katy’s ambition for a voyage from Germany to America was becoming a reality. Her 15th birthday was October 28, and in November, she came to America with only $5 and speaking only German. When she learned to read and write in ’English’, she got a job, met her soul mate, and life followed. She left a legacy of stoic bravery in personal situations.Her bravery brought her through many trials and is a good example to us all.
