Bothwell: A Poem In Six Parts is a narrative poem written by Scottish author William Edmondstoune Aytoun and published in 1858. The poem tells the story of James Hepburn, 4th Earl of Bothwell, who was a prominent figure in Scottish history and famously married Mary, Queen of Scots. The six parts of the poem follow Bothwell’s rise to power and eventual downfall, as he becomes embroiled in political intrigue and scandal. The poem is written in a highly stylized and formal language, with frequent allusions to classical literature and Scottish history. Aytoun’s work is considered a classic of Scottish literature and a significant contribution to the genre of historical poetry. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world’s literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
