Bon An, Mal An is a novel written by Henri Lavedan and published in 1911. The title translates to ''Good Year, Bad Year'' in English. The story is set in a small French village and follows the lives of several characters over the course of a year. The main character, Monsieur de Vaudricourt, is a wealthy landowner who is respected and admired by the villagers. However, his life takes a turn for the worse when his wife dies and he becomes consumed with grief. He begins to neglect his responsibilities and his estate falls into disrepair. Meanwhile, a young woman named Marthe arrives in the village and captures the attention of several eligible bachelors. She is courted by two men, one of whom is the son of Monsieur de Vaudricourt. However, Marthe’s true feelings are revealed when she chooses the other man. Throughout the novel, the characters experience both joy and sorrow as they navigate the ups and downs of life. The themes of love, loss, and redemption are explored in depth. Overall, Bon An, Mal An is a poignant and thought-provoking novel that offers insight into the complexities of human relationships and the human experience. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
