In den Nachkriegsjahren, und besonders in den 1950er Jahren, lässt das neu gegründete US Department of Defense (zuvor United States Department of War) über seine Organe wie die Federal Civil Defense Administration (FCDA) oder Federal Civil Defense Authority Filme im Stil der ’Social guidance films’ produzieren. Wurden diese während des Zweiten Weltkriegs noch hauptsächlich zu Propagandazwecken eingesetzt, dienen sie nun dazu, sicheres Verhalten bei möglichen Atomangriffen zu lehren. Also bekanntestes Beispiel kann hier der 1952 veröffentlichte Film ,,Duck and Cover' betrachtet werden. Ein weiterer etwa 10-minütiger Dokumentarfilm wird 1954 unter dem Titel ,,The House in the Middle' veröffentlicht. Beide sollen im Folgenden ausführlich betrachtet werden.
