The power of union’s with dedicated workers united together for a specific cause, has assisted working men and women in thier fight for improvements in thier wages, benefits, and working conditions. It has been the engine that has catapultied laborers into the American middleclass. This is the story of one man’s rise from a childhood of personal tragedy, through the ranks of the labor movement. It is the story of men and women that toil in factories, plants, stores, mills, shops, and other lines of unionized employment endeavors, all over this great nation. Many Americans that have never walked in our shoes, or suffered at the hands of an unfair management, or unjustly let go, or suffered in-plant injuries and denied basic human rights, have prejudged us and decided that we are a group of lazy, greedy, and undisciplined destroyers of the manufacturing work ethic. The story of the American automobile worker is one of pride and perseverance in the face of adversities, precipitated by unscrupulous managers. By politicians in the United States Congress who are out of touch with the American blue collar worker. They purposely fail to recognize that this is a government of the people, by the people and for the people, so they put us down. The organized American worker understands more than anyone that the words of former UAW President Walter Reuther are true. He said that the bread box and the ballot box are tied together, what’s won at the bargaining table, can be lost at the ballot box. That is why we support politicians that are labor friendly. All workers are joined together at the hip, whether they are aware of it or not. If we fail, the country fails.
