Black Ivory Adventure Among The Slavers Of East Africa is a novel written by R.M. Ballantyne. The story is set in the 19th century and follows the adventures of a young Scottish boy named Allan Quartermain, who travels to East Africa in search of adventure and fortune. Along the way, he becomes embroiled in the dangerous world of the Arab slave trade, and must use his wit and bravery to outsmart the ruthless slavers and save the lives of innocent people. The book is a thrilling adventure story that offers a vivid portrayal of the African landscape and culture, as well as a powerful critique of the slave trade and the colonial system that enabled it. It is a must-read for anyone interested in African history, adventure stories, or social justice issues. They marched in a long line, fastened to each other by chains and ropes and heavy ''gorees'' or slave-sticks. The latter implements were poles from six to seven feet long, with a fork at the end of each, in which the necks of the men were fitted and secured by means of an iron bolt, passing across the throat and riveted at both ends. To render marching possible with such encumbrances, the men went in couples, one behind the other, so that the slave-stick of the leading man could be tied to the stick of his fellow behind, which was slewed round to the front for the purpose. Their wrists were also tied, some in front, others behind their backs. Secured thus, Hercules himself might have been reduced to obedience, especially if he had felt the frequent sting of the cruel lash that was laid on these captives. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
