Die Nanotechnologie ist eine leistungsfähige Technologie, die sich mit Objekten in Nanometergröße befasst. Sie kann auf mehreren Ebenen entwickelt werden: Materialien, Geräte und Systeme. Vor einem Jahrzehnt wurden Nanopartikel aufgrund ihrer größenabhängigen physikalischen und chemischen Eigenschaften untersucht. Jetzt haben sie die Schwelle zur kommerziellen Erforschung überschritten. Auf dem vielfältigen Gebiet der Nanotechnologie werden in fast allen Bereichen der Industrie, von der Medizin bis zu Maschinen, enorme Fortschritte erzielt. Die Nanomaterialien können in diesen Geräten als molekulare Bildgebungsmittel fungieren und krebsbedingte genetische Veränderungen sowie funktionelle Merkmale von Tumorzellen erfassen. Wird die Nanotechnologie im Gesundheitswesen angewandt, kann sie erhebliche Fortschritte bei der Diagnose, Behandlung und Vorbeugung von Krankheiten bewirken. Forscher befassen sich zunehmend mit den potenziellen gesundheitlichen Einsatzmöglichkeiten der Nanotechnologie für die Entwicklung neuer Medikamente. Die Biosynthese von Nanopartikeln kann sowohl in vivo als auch in vitro mit Hilfe von Biomolekülen, Mikroorganismen und Pflanzenextrakten durchgeführt werden. Wir haben die Forschungsarbeiten zu den jüngsten Fortschritten bei der Biosynthese von metallischen Nanopartikeln, die therapeutischen Anwendungen und die Zukunftsperspektiven biosynthetischer Nanopartikel erörtert.
