Arch Bristow (1882-1964) was an iconic cartoonist early in his career with thenationally published Zimmie cartoon, which ran from 1905-24; at its peak, it was in152 newspapers with 14 million readers in the United States and Canada, and a veryfamous writer regionally with his Hay Rake Magazine which began in 1920. He wasalso the author of numerous columns in regional newspapers throughout his life,many running simultaneously in several newspapers. He also had four books: twowith cartoons, 'Jolly Jokers in the Town of Johns 'in 1907 and 'Zimmie’s SummerBook' in 1908, one of verses, 'Hay Ray Verses' in 1921, and one of prose,' Old TimeTales of Warren County' in 1932. However, he is best remembered for the Hay RakeMagazine, of which he published over 40 issues of 64 pages each, where he didalmost all the illustrations, stories, and editing.
