Eines der wichtigsten Systeme in der modernen Landwirtschaft ist heute die nachhaltige Landwirtschaft. Bei der nachhaltigen Landwirtschaft steht die langfristige Stabilität der Leistung bei minimalen Auswirkungen auf die Umwelt im Vordergrund. Das Hauptziel der nachhaltigen Landwirtschaft, die für den Menschen lebensnotwendig ist, besteht darin, den Verbrauch zu reduzieren, den internen Nährstoffkreislauf des Bodens durch eine Verringerung der Bodenbearbeitung und den Einsatz biologischer Düngemittel anstelle von chemischen Düngemitteln zu erhöhen, um den Ertrag der Pflanzen zu steigern und mehr Nahrungsmittel zu produzieren. Für ein optimales Wachstum müssen die Pflanzen ausreichend und ausgewogene Nahrung zur Verfügung haben. Der Boden enthält natürliche Nährstoffquellen für Pflanzen, aber die meisten dieser Ressourcen sind für die Pflanzen unzugänglich, und jedes Jahr wird nur ein kleiner Teil davon durch biologische Aktivitäten und chemische Prozesse freigesetzt. Daher sollten dem Boden Düngemittel als Nahrungsergänzung zugeführt werden.
