Like something you would find in an abandoned house, these poems and photographs represent the expansive scenery of the Indiana countryside-long and spacious, fluctuating in imagery from light to dark. Much like a country drive, the poems present a landscape that lead the reader through the backroads of rural Indiana, both rough and smooth. The stories in this debut collection are mostly true with a few imaginations. The photographs were inspiration for many of the poems and added another layer of aesthetics that work to create the mood as a whole. Country life seems peaceful and simple-until you live in it for a while. The cracks begin to show and the true nature of it’s more complex alter ego emerges. As a young man who moved out to the sticks from the burbs, I learned a lot about life and death from my decades of living in the cornfields and realized the unique perspective it gave. 6
