This book evaluates China’s Silk Road Diplomacy from a classical liberal perspective. The analysis is based upon a framework which depicts three fundamental values of liberal Enlightenment thinkers. The evaluation is derived from empirical literature and reveals polarized perspectives. China’s Silk Road Diplomacy infringes fundamental human rights and restricts personal freedom of individuals by centralizing government power in order control the economic and social development of the country. Nevertheless, China’s foreign policy makes effort to adapt fundamental liberal values such as the free trade doctrine.
