Per contribuire a superare i limiti geografici e concettuali degli studi sull’argomento, questo studio si propone di individuare e divulgare i risultati della ricerca sulle fonti ecclesiastiche relative al battesimo degli africani nella prima parrocchia di Feira de Santana, São José das.itapororocas, nel periodo 1785-1826. Il battesimo era considerato una regola nella società brasiliana per la costruzione di famiglie allargate e allargabili, in altre parole, i legami permettevano di aumentare la famiglia già esistente. I significati del battesimo per gli scritti erano vari, a seconda delle relazioni stabilite nella società prevalente. Pertanto, il battesimo degli africani ha permesso di conoscere il gruppo etnico più espressivo del Feirense e le strategie di sopravvivenza e resistenza degli schiavi nella costruzione di questi legami spirituali e di parentela.
