Bato bá Tchua, littéralement Les gens d’avant , est un voyage initiatique au cœur du mystère de l’existence humaine. Le récit éducatif de ce Tome 1 s’ouvre sur un vieillard nommé Eseyi, dernier témoin d’un âge oublié, dont la parole éclaire la nuit de l’oubli comme la braise sous la cendre. Alors qu’il s’allonge pour la sieste, l’esprit du vieux sage s’évade lentement de son corps, amorçant une série de voyages astraux où se confondent le visible et l’invisible, la mémoire et la prophétie, la vie et l’au-delà.Dans ce théâtre cosmique, Eseyi découvre les trois visages du temps : son existence passée, son présent incarné et les ombres de son devenir. Chacune de ces étapes donne lieu à des contes initiatiques et philosophiques, où les forces de la nature, les esprits ancestraux, les bêtes et les hommes dialoguent dans la langue du symbole.À travers des récits tissés de mythes fondateurs, de légendes africaines, de songes et de paraboles, l’auteur peint l’homme africain comme un astre en exil, un luminaire dont la clarté voyage de monde en monde, cherchant à comprendre la raison de sa chute sur la terre des vivants. Eseyi, loin d’être un simple conteur, devient le griot de l’invisible, un philosophe de la nuit, dépositaire des vérités de la forêt et des secrets du firmament.Dans sa bouche, les mots deviennent des cauris, les rêves des sentiers, et la sagesse, une rivière sans source ni embouchure. Ainsi, ce tome n’est pas seulement un recueil de contes ; c’est une cosmogonie poétique qui réconcilie l’homme avec ses origines célestes et terrestres. C’est la mémoire d’un peuple, le chant d’une âme africaine parlant à l’éternité.
