Ergonomics can be defined as the laws of work or principle of work. Ergonomics can be roughly defined as study of workers in their working environment. Ergonomics aims to create safe, comfortable and productive workspaces by bringing human abilities and limitations into the design of a workspace, including the individual’s body size, strength, skill, speed and sensory abilities. Ergonomics is a relatively new branch of science, but it relies on research carried out in many other older, established scientific areas, such as engineering, physiology and psychology. Ergonomics can be divided into three broad domains. These are Physical Ergonomics, Cognitive Ergonomics and Organizational Ergonomics. The goal of ergonomics is to make the worker more comfortable with work and to improve both worker’s health and their productivity. It is an interdisciplinary science of designing the job, products and place for fitting the job to worker. Psychology, Industrial engineering, computer science, biomechanics and safety engineering all play a role in ergonomics.
