Bard of Briargate is a collection of eighty poems by Curt Scarborough, an eighty-six-year-old writer who resides in his Briargate Estates home in St. Charles, Missouri. A retired college and seminary president, Dr. Scarborough has written more than 100 published books - mostly biblical studies and theological textbooks.Dr. Curt’s life is a surprising paradox . . . he’s a deep Christian philosopher with a hilarious sense of humor. This book contains a generous sample of both sides of his personality as he scribbles about his wife Roni, their herd of cats, his semi-true boyhood adventures, and other weird tales. Intertwined with these various and sundry 'rhymes without reason,' he concludes with a dozen beautiful, inspiring spiritual hymns and original worship songs.

The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....
