The Bad Romance, Pretty Toxic Thing, art exhibition previewed at the Magic Box in the Mondrian West Hollywood, June 2022. It was inspired by the song of the same name. Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance entwines the over-arching lyrical meaning and fairytale to create a new world of highly imaginative mural scale artworks. The artwork explores pretty things that are toxic. Not everything is at is seems, and not everything that seems is!- José Saramago_ Brightside has been working in the creative industry for 22 years and for the latter 12 has had a narrowed focus of illustrating the re-telling of fables and moralistic stories. A few provocative authors that have embellished theoretical curiosity and which have translated directly into her artwork are Angela Carter - The Bloody Chamber, Jack Zipes - Little Red Riding Hood and Other Classic French Fairy Tales, Bruno Bettelheim - The Uses of Enchantment: The Meaning and Importance of Fairy Tales, and Catherine Orenstein’s - Little Red Riding Hood Uncloaked: Sex, Morality, and the Evolution of a Fairy Tale. Over time, Brightside’s study of these authors and deep-diving into symbolism, she has imbued her own metaphors and meaning in the artwork. This Oracle Card Deck and Color-in Instruction Guide Set are the first part in a hexalogy series that start to explain the meaning behind her illustrations. This book explains how to read the Oracle Cards, whilst also having the option to use them as a color-in meditation practice.
