Se utilizó el modelo bidimensional de velocidad D2Q9 para crear un autómata celular aplicando el método de Lattice Boltzmann a dos fluidos inmiscibles, agua y aceite y simular el proceso de separación de fases de ambos fluidos. Con la introducción de un medio poroso, se pudo simular la evolución de fluidos monofásicos en este medio y observar su comportamiento con el paso del tiempo. Básicamente la dinámica se basa en los procesos de colisión y propagación entre partículas. Se obtuvo una generalización de este algoritmo para flujos multifásicos con múltiples componentes. Parte de estas simulaciones, constituyen un punto de partida para el análisis de las emulsiones, sobre todo en las emulsiones que se forman en los pozos de petróleo y afectan la producción.
