A sofisticação e a complexidade dos sistemas de planeamento do tratamento e da dose absorvida aumentaram significativamente, em particular com a inclusão de sistemas de planeamento do tratamento tridimensionais (3D) e a utilização de técnicas de planeamento e aplicação do tratamento conformacional. Este livro levou à necessidade de um conjunto abrangente de autenticação em radioterapia externa, braquiterapia e terapia de protões. O objetivo desta tese é desenvolver e implementar uma autenticação abrangente mas com métodos viáveis para o planeamento moderno do tratamento de radioterapia. O âmbito das necessidades de autenticação para o planeamento do tratamento é bastante vasto, abrangendo a definição baseada em imagens da anatomia do doente, descrições de feixes 3D para feixes complexos, incluindo aberturas de colimadores multifolha, algoritmos de cálculo de doses 3D e ferramentas de avaliação de planos complexos, incluindo histogramas de volume de dose.
