Das Buch ist für alle Länder von Bedeutung, da die Finanzierung des Staatshaushalts durch Staatsverschuldung weit verbreitet ist. Das Problem der Staatsverschuldung betrifft sogar Privatpersonen. In Kenia ist dies ein besonders heikles Thema, da mehr als 50 % des Haushalts durch Schulden finanziert werden und daher die Finanzmittel gut eingesetzt werden müssen, vor allem für die Entwicklung der Infrastruktur und nicht für laufende Ausgaben. Es müssen andere Wege zur Finanzierung der Staatshaushalte gefunden werden, um eine Anhäufung von Schulden zu vermeiden, die zu steigenden Kreditkosten führen. Kurzfristig stellte der Autor einen Verdrängungseffekt privater Investoren fest. Wenn Kenia bei der Kreditaufnahme nicht vorsichtig ist, wird langfristig ein Schuldenüberhang zu spüren sein, wodurch Gelder, die für die Entwicklung vorgesehen sind, für den Schuldendienst oder die Kreditkosten verwendet werden müssen.
