O crescente consumo mundial de energia, a busca pela redução nas emissões de carbono e os problemas climáticos realçam a importância dos investimentos em sistemas de energia de baixo impacto ambiental. Neste sentido, os Armazenadores de Energia Elétrica utilizando Hidrogênio (AEH2) têm se mostrado uma alternativa tecnológica promissora. No entanto, a eficiência global dos AEH2’s é muito limitada. Neste livro, busca-se aumentar a eficiência dos AEH2 através do estudo teórico e experimental do aproveitamento de calor de seus componentes. O AEH2 desta pesquisa é composto por um eletrolisador alcalino, um armazenador de hidrogênio na forma de hidretos metálicos e uma pilha de células a combustível do tipo PEM. Uma planta experimental foi montada para levantamento de dados, realização de ensaios e pesquisa e, ainda, foram desenvolvidos o equacionamento e a modelagem matemática dos equipamentos. A interligação entre os modelos possibilitou a simulação dos ciclos de carga e descarga levando em consideração o aproveitamento de calor dos componentes do AEH2. A partir dos resultados das simulações estimou-se o potencial e o impacto do reaproveitamento térmico na eficiência total do AEH2.
