Dieses Buch ist eine Analyse der Beziehungen zwischen Königreichen, an deren Spitze das Mankon-Königreich stand. Es werden interne und externe Faktoren erörtert, die den Aufstieg und Fall der Mankon-Konföderation von etwa 1800 bis 1927 beeinflussten. Diese Union, die innerhalb der territorialen Grenzen des Mankon-Königreichs gegründet wurde, war ein einheimisches System der politischen Organisation im Bamenda-Grasland in Kamerun. Sie vereinte sechs Königreiche der ethnischen Gruppe der Ngemba (Mankon, Mbatu, Chomba, Nsongwa, Mundum und Ndzong) und zwei Königreiche der Stammesgruppen der Mbu und Bafut (Mbu bzw. Mambu). Ihr Ziel war es, die Verteidigung gegen die Bedrohung von außen durch die ethnische Gruppe der Chamba zu stärken. Als Zusammenschluss autonomer Königreiche war die Konföderation eine lockere Vereinigung. Die Konföderation war erfolgreich, bis Dr. Eugene Zintgraff und der deutsche Imperialismus kamen und ihren Zusammenbruch einleiteten. Sie hinterließ jedoch ein bedeutendes Erbe für die Menschen in der Region.
