Der Grundgedanke meines Buches liegt in unserer Angst um die Sicherheit angesichts transparenter, vielschichtiger und miteinander vernetzter Bedrohungen, während die NATO und die EU nicht einmal in der Lage sind, formell über gemeinsame Sicherheitsfragen zu diskutieren, wie zum Beispiel: Negative Auswirkungen der Globalisierung; bewaffnete Konflikte; Terroranschläge; organisierte Kriminalität und illegale Migration; Naturkatastrophen; Bedrohungen durch Massenvernichtungswaffen. Das optimale Ziel meiner Forschung war es, eine Antwort auf die Frage zu finden, in welche Richtung die EU und die NATO ihre Bemühungen lenken sollten, um ihre Beziehungen wieder so effizient und vertrauenswürdig zu gestalten, dass sie sich in der globalen Sicherheit ergänzen, kooperieren oder koexistieren können.
