Im spanischen Bürgerkrieg war die öffentliche Meinung in extremer Weise für oder gegen eine der konkurrierenden Seiten polarisiert. Für Spanien selbst bedeutete er eine traumatische Zäsur, die zwar die Möglichkeit einer anarchistisch-sozialistischen Revolution vereitelte, aber gleichzeitig alle demokratisch-reformistischen Orientierungen mehrere Jahrzehnte lang einfror. Der Kampf gegen den Faschismus war der Beweggrund Tausender von Freiwilligen aus über 50 Ländern, sich für diesen Krieg - mit dem Preis ihres Lebens - zu engagieren. Darunter befanden sich über 400 Rumänen, die in den Internationalen Brigaden in Spanien kämpften. Es sind die Freiwilligen, die Geschichte geschrieben haben. Ihre Stimmen sollen gehört werden.Laura Polexe setzt sich in ihrer vorliegenden Arbeit mit den Internationalen Brigaden im spanischen Bürgerkrieg auseinander. Dabei untersucht sie insbesondere die Rolle der rumänischen Freiwilligen, die in Spanien auf der Seite der Republik kämpften.
