Der AnlaB zur Herausgabe dieses kleinen Buches war der Wunsch, einen groBeren Leserkreis fUr. die wunderbaren Errungenschaften der Stellarastronomie (Fixsternkunde) der Gegenwart zu interessieren. Es war meine Absicht, das Buch derart zu gestalten, daB es als Grundlage fUr weitere Studien dienen kann und nicht nur ein flfichtiges, vorfibergehendes Interesse fUr den erhabenen Gegenstand, den es behandelt, wecken solI. So habe ich mich besonders bemiiht, exakte Begriffsbestimmungen zu geben. Die zwei Artikel unter der Oberschrift: 'Fundamentalbegriffe der modernen SteIlar­ astronomie' diirften von diesem Gesichtspunkt aus fiir aIle von Nutzen sein, die mit def stellarastronomischen For­ schung unserer Tage Ffihlung nehmen wollen. AuGer den stellarastronomischen Aufsatzen enthaIt das Bfichlein einEn Artikel fiber die Kometen, ihre Bahnen, Natur und Ursprung sowie einen kurzen Artikel fiber ein Kalenderproblem, das von allgemeinem Interesse ist.
