These were buildings that had been built to withstand the impact of many modern aircraft, but not the modern aircraft of the twenty-first century. The size and speed of the aircraft from the year 2001 were too much for these vaunted towers. Four aircraft were hijacked, with hijackers finding ways past the airport screeners and onto the aircraft.
