Nel suo trattato Storia, civiltà o barbarie, Cheick Anta Diop ha sottolineato come sia fondamentale per gli africani guardare alla propria storia e alla propria civiltà e studiarla per comprendere meglio se stessi, in modo da rendere tutte le armi culturali obsolete, grottesche e d’ora in poi inoffensive. Consapevoli dell’importanza di riscrivere la storia africana, in parte falsificata per motivi ideologici, questi giovani ricercatori cercano di ripercorrere la storia del continente attingendo alle fonti orali e archeologiche e ai racconti dei viaggiatori. Affrontano temi che si rivelano i cugini poveri della storiografia beninese. Questo primo tentativo è l’inizio di una serie di articoli scientifici che cercheranno di forgiare una coscienza storica nelle menti dei giovani africani.
