Gracias a que fue un gran estudioso del tema, Bashford Dean nos ofrece unas descripciones repletas de detalles e información que serán muy útiles para todos aquellos que deseen acercarse al estudio de este tipo de especímenes.En Japón, los estilos marciales tuvieron un gran desarrollo y el nivel de habilidad alcanzado por los guerreros fue tremendamente alto. A diferencia de Occidente, los samuráis valoraban más un tipo de armadura que les permitiera la movilidad suficiente para aplicar sus habilidades marciales aunque fuese a costa de una protección menor. Quizás, es por esta razón que, en Japón, los estilos de lucha continuaron desarrollando sus increíbles habilidades mientras que en Occidente, por el contrario, estas disciplinas fueron perdiéndose hasta dar paso de forma definitiva a la lucha con armas de fuego. 10
