What happens when Earth is on the verge of destruction, and the hope of humanity’s future lies in generational ARC ships sent out to colonize other planets? Well, a lot of things, really.Elisabeth Anderson is the Captain of the ARC770 ship. A generational ship meant to spread out some of the last of humanity’s best and brightest to the furthest reaches of the galaxy in the hopes of survival. Along the way, though, Elisabeth has found that the quietness and solitude of space is not all it’s cracked up to be. Lonely, with nothing but endless consumption of food and pleasure, she has to balance doing her job as Captain and her growing discontent with life in general aboard a ship that’s nothing more than a tomb. Her only companion? An AI that’s friendly and helpful but without a spark that makes it feel human. Plus, there is a revolving door of people both on and off the ship who come but quickly leave as soon as they arrive. Questions abound, though: will Elisabeth see her mission through to the end or succumb to the eternity of hedonism that she could enjoy?

Paul Keller is the Stephen Dedalus of the piece, the son of Robert and Sylvie, whose internal monologue is spliced into the action, and whose incestuous feelings for his sister lead to an increase in his...
