For nearly a thousand years, the city of Anyra has been ruled by a goddess known as the Totem. The Totem has two sides, two halves blended into one goddess. The kind motherly side of the Totem gifts Anyra with healthy children and bountiful harvests, but the fierce, warriorlike side thirsts for blood and destruction. Each year, a virgin girl must be sacrificed into the mouth of a volcano in order to satiate the Totem’s bloodlust and allow her to reign over Anyra with peace and kindness. Adelaide Lanasting is selected as this sacrifice. Adelaide is given one month to settle her affairs before she is thrown into the mouth of the volcano. Adelaide, however, decides that one month isn’t enough.As her husband-to-be, Sebastian, chooses to side with the Totem and allow Adelaide to be killed, Adelaide leaves Sebastian and the home she has always known to find a new life. She joins dozens of other Anyran refugees that have fled the Totem and her Temple to form a Village in the forest. Still recovering from losing her home and the man she thought she would marry, Adelaide finds new friends and the promise of another civilization far from Anyra. This could mean freedom for Adelaide and the other Anyrans if this enticing place truly exists.As Adelaide and the refugees unravel the mystery of the Totem and the magic holding Anyra captive, the fires of rebellion spread throughout the people with Adelaide at the center. The clock is winding down as the High Priestess grows more desperate to find Adelaide so that she may be sacrificed in order to keep the Totem at bay. Adelaide must now face a harrowing choice. Will she flee as far as she can as she is pursued by Sebastian and the followers of the Totem, or will she return to free Anyra at the cost of her own life?
