Głównym celem tych badań jest przedstawienie „ANTMANET', nowatorskiego protokołu routingu dla mobilnych sieci Ad-Hoc. Proponowany protokół ma na celu zmniejszenie obciążenia sieci i opóźnień spowodowanych mobilnością węzłów w sieciach MANET. Istnieją dwie techniki wbudowane w ten protokół, technika „Local Zone' i tabela „North Neighbour'. Wykorzystują one fakt, że węzły mogą uzyskać informacje o swojej lokalizacji w dowolny sposób, aby zmniejszyć obciążenie sieci podczas fazy odkrywania trasy i zmniejszyć rozmiar tablicy routingu, aby zagwarantować szybszą zbieżność. ANTMANET to hybrydowy algorytm routingu oparty na optymalizacji kolonii mrówek (ACO). ACO to algorytm routingu oparty na inteligencji roju (SI), który jest dobrze znany ze swojej wysokiej jakości wydajności w porównaniu z innymi algorytmami routingu rozproszonego, takimi jak Link State i Distance Vector.
