Anti-Pragmatism: An Examination Into The Respective Rights Of Intellectual Aristocracy And Social Democracy is a book written by Swiss philosopher Albert Schinz in 1909. The book is a critique of the philosophical movement of pragmatism, which Schinz argues is at odds with intellectual aristocracy and promotes social democracy. Schinz argues that intellectual aristocracy, or the belief that a select few individuals possess superior intellectual abilities and should therefore have greater influence in society, is necessary for the advancement of knowledge and culture. He contends that social democracy, or the belief in equal rights and opportunities for all individuals, is a threat to the intellectual elite and will lead to the decline of civilization. Schinz’s arguments are based on his interpretation of the works of philosophers such as Plato, Kant, and Nietzsche. The book is considered an important contribution to the debate on the role of intellectuals in society and the relationship between democracy and intellectualism. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world’s literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
