Estetyczny horyzont współczesnego kina wyznacza powrót do medytacji nad czasem jako doświadczeniem widza. Zjawisko to zostało w dużej mierze zbudowane wokół wykorzystania sekwencji ujęć jako narzędzia, które wytwarza czasowość związaną nie tylko z wewnętrznym rytmem filmu, ale także z tworzeniem percepcyjnych powiązań u widza. W niniejszej rozprawie staramy się ustanowić płynną taksonomię temporalności, która konstruuje pierwszą propozycję dotyczącą potencjału sekwencji ujęć do obróbki czasowej. W świetle tej taksonomii identyfikujemy serię współczesnych produkcji, które wykorzystują czasową dylatację i ciągłość jako narzędzie do pojawiania się wrażeń lub stanów psychicznych u widza; a z drugiej strony zestaw filmów, które ustanawiają wyraźny dyskurs na temat ich własnego wymiaru czasowego.
